These
‘Coumanare Arrows’ are examples of the many pointed
pieces of timber found embedded in peat in an area extending
over several acres south-east of Connor Hill. They may have
formed some form of deer trap, and a Later Bronze Age date
has been given for the peat in which they were found.
A mythological explanation is that they were arrows used in
the battle between the champions of Ulster and Munster, the
name of the area meaning ‘The Hollow of the Slaughter’

Copper ore
from the Ross Island mine, Killarney. Copper was mined and
processed at this site from 2400 – 1900 BC, supplying
the first copper and bronze metal used in Ireland.
