Coumanare Arrows

These ‘Coumanare Arrows’ are examples of the many pointed pieces of timber found embedded in peat in an area extending over several acres south-east of Connor Hill. They may have formed some form of deer trap, and a Later Bronze Age date has been given for the peat in which they were found.
A mythological explanation is that they were arrows used in the battle between the champions of Ulster and Munster, the name of the area meaning ‘The Hollow of the Slaughter’
