| NEWS Launch of Sculpture Trail leaflet and opening of Féile na Cásca (10/4/2011) On Sunday afternoon last, Féile na Cásca, the annual Easter art exhibition, was opened by artist Cliodna Cussen, during a lovely occasion which was enhanced by entertainment from local schoolchildren (whose art was also on display). As part of the proceedings, Cliodna also launched the 'Conair Dealbhadóireachta Iarthar Dhuibhneach - Dingle and West Sculpture Trail', which is available at the exhibition, and also in the museum. We are delighted with this new leaflet, which was sponsored by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, and which shows many of the pieces of roadside sculpture to be found in Dingle and the areas to the west of the town, with some information about each piece. Further information about the sculptures will also be available on this web site here. Wi-Fi! (27/3/2012) This year we are delighted to announce that we will be able to provide free internet access to our customers - just ask at the desk for the special code that will enable you to access the internet on your own device while on our premises. Museum re-opens for Easter holiday period (27/3/2012) The museum will re-open, for one week only, from Sunday 8 April (Easter Sunday), from 10.00 - 5.00 each day. Our final open day will be Saturday April 14, and then we re-open in June for the summer period. For that same week, Féile na Cásca, the Easter Art Exhibition, will take place in the Máimín in Baile an Fheireéaraigh, which is only one minute up the road from the museum. This exhibition, which has been taking place at this time every year for many years now, is always well worth a visit, display as it does both adult art (which will be for sale) and the work of local school children. Féile na Cásca will be officially opened by artist Cliodna Cussen, who will also launch our new 'Conair Dealbhadóireachta Iarthar Dhuibhneach - Dingle and West Sculpture Trail' at the same time. All welcome! Whale and Dolphin Exhibition (21/2/2012) We are delighted to announce that a new exhibition, Whales and Dolphins around Corca Dhuibhne, will be on display for the coming season in the Museum. The exhibition, which was funded with assistance from the Heritage Council, was prepared with the specialist assistance of Nick Massett, an Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG) member, who has been studying these magnificent creatures in this area for the past 10 years. The exhibition consists of full-colour bilingual panels, with all of the informtaion in the panels suppied by Nick, including most of the wonderful photographs. The exhibition was desingned by Paul Francis, who was responsible for the design of the main permanent exhibition in the museum, and also designed our series of worksheets. It is hoped to organise an event to compliment this exhibition during Heritage Week 2012, and it is likely that the Whale Watch event, organised by the IWDG, will also take place at this time during the last week in August. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page!
Sculpture Trail leaflet (13/2/2012) Músaem Chorca Dhuibhne is delighted to announce that a new information leaflet, 'Conair Dealbhadóireachta Iarthar Dhuibhneach - Dingle and West Sculpture Trail' will be launched on Easter Sunday next, April 8, during the opening of the annual Féile na Cásca (Easter Art Exhibition). This leaflet, which has been compiled with much appreciated funding from the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, will contain images of and details about many of the sculptural pieces, mainly modern but some more ancient, to be seen in the western part of the peninsula. There is also a map showing where the pieces are located. Due to the size constraints in the brochure, we were not able to include all the information gathered about some of the pieces, and we also realised that there were other pieces that perhaps also merited mention, but space would not allow any more to be included. Therefore we are adding another page to this site, 'Sculpture Trail', which we plan to populate with images of and further details about the pieces in the brochure, but also some of the other artworks which can be seen in the western part of the peninsula. Work has only just begun on this aspect of the project, but we will be adding to it all the time. We hope you will enjoy it! Scoil Cheoil an Earraigh 2012 (13/2/2012) Don't forget, Scoil Cheoil an Earraigh begins soon, with the launch taking place here in the Museum next Wednesday evening at 8.00 pm. Máirtín Tom Sheánín will be launching the event, which promises to be better than ever! New article about the Museum (13/2/2012) You can read an article about the museum, written by the curator, Isabel Bennett, in Issue 2 of a new on-line magazine published by Irish Archaeological Research. This is a new iniative, based in Northern Ireland, and they are doing great work, as can be seen by the lovely design of the magazine, and the range of articles included in it. Scoil Cheoil 2012 update (12/1/2012) The full programme for this year's Scoil Cheoil has now been uploaded, and several of the events will be taking place here in the museum. This Music School has gone from strength to strength and we wish them all the best for 2012!
A different look! (1/12/2011) We are doing a bit of work both inside and outside the building, so you will see some changes when you next visit. Have you noticed that we have lowered the hedge this is beside the wall to the front of the building? Keep checking for updates, to see what else is happening in the museum!
Scoil Cheoil 2012 (25/11/2011) Dates for your diary - next year's Scoil Cheoil an Earraigh takes place here in Baile an Fheirtéaraigh (with many of the events taking place here in the museum) from 15-19 February 2012. Recent projects in Músaem Chorca Dhuibhne (8/11/2011) Thanks to grant assistance from the Heritage Education, Community and Outreach Scheme 2011 of the Heritage Council, work has been taking place for several months now on the development of a new temporary exhibition, which will be on display in the museum during 2012, about the Whales and Dolphins to be found in the coast around Corca Dhuibhne. The exhibition is based mainly on the work of Nick Massett, of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, who has been recording sightings in this area for several years. Our other recent project has been the designing of a brochure illustrating many of the examples of (mainly) public sculptures that can be seen in Dingle and the western part of Corca Dhuibhne. This brochure, which will be launched soon, was grant-aided under the Scheme to assist Local and Regional Museums funded by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. The overall design is by Laurence Jones, and photography by Siobhán Dempsey, Latitude Imaging. In conjunction with the brochure, we also plan to develop a page here on the web site which will provide further information about many of the pieces, and perhaps some others too. Further details to follow. Féile Bheag Filíochta 11- 13 November 2011 (21/10/2011) We are delighted to again support the Féile Bheag Filíochta (Little Poetry Festival) which will take place in Baile an Fheirtéaraigh and Dingle on the week-end of November 11. Although conducted mainly through Irish, some of the events will take place in English. Further information, including the full programme, can be found here. Winter opening (8/9/2011) The museum will be closed from Monday 12 September until Easter time 2012. However, we will be open from 10.00 - 12.00 next Thursday 15 September, to take part in Ireland's Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of the Irish Hospice Foundation. We can open by appointment (generally weekdays only); please contact us by phone (066-915633) or email - or by post if you prefer! Final Cultural Interlude (6/9/2011) Our very last session for 2011 will be taking place next Sunday, 11 September, at 3.00. Our entertainers will be Ceolteoirí an Buailtín, a group of local traditional musicians. We hope they will give the series a great send-off! In association with Fáilte Ireland. The next Cultural Interlude (30/8/2011) Our penultimate Cultural Interlude (in Association with Fáilte Ireland), takes place next Sunday, 4 September, at 3.00 pm, when Breandán Ó Beaglaoich and his family will entertain us. The Begley's are well-known musicians, both home and abroad, and Breandán no less than any other of his siblings. This time he will be playing with his own adult children, in a set that is sure to entertain all lovers of Irish music, and those who just enjoy hearing instruments well played, and songs well sung! Bí ann gan teip!
Some photos from our 4th Cultural Interlude Heritage Walk (30/8/2011) A very successful walk took place last Sunday morning, as part of our events for National Heritage Week. Among the group were 15 trainee teachers, in the area for a few weeks on an Irish language course, as well as locals, and visitors from other parts of Ireland and abroad. We were very lucky with the weather, with only a couple of light showers, and everybody had a good time and hopefully made some new friends, as well as learning a little bit about several aspects of the heritage of Béal Bán beach and Smerwick Harbour.

In Association with Fáilte Ireland (26/7/2011) We are delighted to announce an added attraction to those visiting the museum any Sunday afternoon from 3.00 - 4.00, starting on August 7, with the final session on September 11. You will be entertained by groups of performers - musicians, singers, storytellers, who will add to your enjoyment of a visit to the museum, and help you learn a little more about the culture of the area. There will be no extra charge for this entertainment. As part of the same project, similar types of entertainment will also be happening in the Blasket Centre, Dún Chaoin, every Wednesday afternoon also at 3.00, beginning on Wednesday 10 August, with the final session on Wednesday 7 September.
