Comharchumann Forbartha Chorca Dhuibhne will be holding an information evening in the museum on Wednesday 21 September at 7.30, about the Lár Ionad Forbartha Gaeilge agus Gaeltachta agus Aonad Tacaíochta Teaghlaigh (Education and Support centre for Irish and those living in the Gaeltacht) that it is proposed to build on a site owned by Údarás na Gaeltachta in Baile an Fheirtéaraigh. Further information from Gearóid Ó Brosnacháin, 066-9156100.

Hospice Coffee Morning (8/9/2011)

We will once again be partaking in the annual 'Ireland's biggest coffee morning', in aid of the Irish Hospice Foundation, on Thursday September 15, in the museum café, between 10.00 and 12.00. Please come and support! We also welcome any baking you might like to contribute to help us raise funds for this very worthy cause.

Heritage Walk, during Heritage Week 2011 (6/9/2011)

A mixed group of locals, visitors (Irish and from abroad) and students on an Irish-language course took part in our walk for Heritage Week on Sunday 28 August, making it a most enjoyable event. Here are some photos of the places we visited:

Heritage Week Events, August 2011 (16/6/2011)

As we do every year during Heritage Week, we are offering free entry to the museum on the last two Sundays in August (the 21st and the 28th). We are also organising a 'Heritage Walk', leaving the museum at 10.30 on Sunday August 28th. Your guides will be the curator, Isabel Bennett, an archaeologist with a wealth of knowledge about the monuments on the peninsula, and Máire Ní Scannláin, whose beautiful Irish will bring an added layer of our ancient heritage to the walk. We expect the walk to take 2-2.5 hours - please bring strong shows and rain gear, just in case!

Annual Events

Heritage Week, 2011

To celebrate Heritage Week 2010, as we have been doing for many years now, entry to the museum was free on both Sundays at the end of August. This will happen again during Heritage Week 2011, which takes place from 20 to 28 August.

We also plan, once again, to hold a guided walk along one of the Siúlóid Oidhreachta on one of the Saturdays during the week, beginning at the museum at 10.00 am and finishing c. 12.30 pm. Each of these walks incorporates some of the local archaeological sites, and the guides will be members of staff of Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne, who are very familiar with the area and all of its interesting features and stories. Keep an eye on this site, and our Facebook page, for further updates, nearer to the event.

Launch of Conair Oidhreachta Chorca Dhuibhne/Dingle Peninsula Heritage Trail

Conair Oidhreachta Chorca Dhuibhne/Dingle Peninsula Heritage Trail, a joint venture between the Museum, Ionad an Bhlascaoid Mhóir (the Blasket Island Interpretative Centre) and An Díseart was launched in the Museum at the end of October 2009. This initiative consists of a leaflet containing discount vouchers for the three venues, providing entry discounts of up to 40%, and they will be widely distributed throughout the peninsula in time for the 2010 season. We are grateful for the assistance provided by the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism to enable this project to happen.
